Welcome!

Chances are you just saw our flyer and the mail and wanted to check out what the Toulon Civic Association is all about. Great!

The Toulon Civic Association is a great way to get to know your local businesses, residents and community needs. Participation in supporting local growth of business and community is a reward in itself.

The new Toulon Civic Association will host a community potluck Sunday afternoon, April 12 beginning at 4 o’clock at  Indian Creek Vineyard in Toulon as part of its drive to build membership and support for the group’s goals of helping beautify Toulon and of increasing the town’s vitality.

A brochure is going into the mail soon to all residents of the Toulon area that encourages membership in the Toulon Civic Association.

“Our new association is an expansion of the former business-oriented Chamber of Commerce,” said Toulon Civic Association president Doug Parrott, who is also CEO of the State Bank of Toulon.

“We want every resident who is interested in a strong future for our community to belong, including those who are active in coffee klatches and other informal groups that express their concerns about our community,” Parrott added. “This is everyone’s opportunity to give something back to their town.”

Annual membership dues are $10 for individuals, $20 for families and $50 for businesses. The mailer provides membership information and can be returned to P.O. Box 574 in Toulon or dropped off at the State Bank of Toulon.

Parrott would love to see membership in the Toulon Civic Association reach half the population of the town, which is about 1,300.
The objective of the community potluck is to attract 100 and ideally more people to come together to get to know one another.

“Many people new to the community, as well as those who have been with us some time, have not been asked to get involved,” said Parrott. “Well, we’re asking everyone to become involved.”

Those coming to the potluck are asked to bring a dish to pass. Meat and drink will be provided.

First project: beautify lot across from the bank

To demonstrate the Toulon Civic Association’s can-do attitude, the group’s first project will be to beautify the vacant double-lot on Main Street across the street to the east from the State Bank.

“At our recent meeting, we voted to have landscape architects provide us plans for beautifying the lot,” said Parrott.

“Members of the Toulon Civic Association will do the physical work of transforming the space, and the State Bank of Toulon will pay for the materials,” Parrott added.
Other projects on the group’s list include a major renovation of the City Park.

According to Parrott, the pavilion needs to be replaced, and the association would also like to see new playground equipment as well as landscaping of the park.
“This will be a long-term project that will require lots of fund-raising,” said Parrott.

“Please look in your mailbox for the mailer from the Toulon Civic Association,” said Parrott, “and strongly consider becoming a member. We are all in this to make our—and your—community a better place to live.”

The Toulon Civic Association meets the third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the basement of the State Bank of Toulon.
